As our team at Webspec continues to grow, we get to meet lots of new and interesting people. Our newest newbie is Anna Elliot, Digital Marketing Strategist. From her eclectic taste in music to her love for adventure, we got to know a little bit more about Anna when we sat down with her for a little Q & A.
Where did you grow up?
I grew up in Chesapeake, Virginia—a city whose only claim to fame is that it’s right next to Virginia Beach.
When you were five years old, what did you want to be when you grew up?
My memory might not be good enough to remember exactly what I wanted to be when I was five, but I know sometime in elementary school I wanted to be a dolphin trainer, inspired by the dolphin rehabilitation exhibit at the aquarium. I’ve clearly let my elementary school self down.
Okay, time for the serious questions: What’s the funniest movie you’ve ever seen?
The first movie that came to mind is “Kung Fury.” It’s absolutely ridiculous and might still be on Netflix if you’re lucky.
Have you ever had a weird or clumsy injury and what was it?
I have a scar on my chin from falling while giving a child I was babysitting a piggy back ride. No children were hurt in the making of this scar, just my pride.
Join one of our office debates! Which is better and why: Pancheros or Chipotle?
I’m a free agent right now. Who wants to try to convince me to be on their team?
What’s the most adventurous food you’ve ever eaten, and did you like it?
Squid ink pasta. I was good mostly because of the other seafood in the dish. I’m convinced the ink didn’t taste like anything. It just left my teeth a gross grey color.
If you had to start planning a vacation to take one month from now, where would you go and why?
Colorado. Because I’ve never been, and that’s ridiculous. I also love mountains, but I’m sure the Blue Ridge pale in comparison to the Rockies.
What’s the “adulting” milestone in your life you’re most proud of so far?
My favorite adulting moment was purchasing (and transporting) a live christmas tree. My most proud moments are boring financial independence milestones.
What’s your favorite fun or unique hangout in the Des Moines area?
Not sure I can pick one! Des Moines wouldn’t be Des Moines to me without Gray’s Lake, Mars Cafe, and Cooney’s Tavern.
We have all sorts of musical tastes in the office. What’s your favorite type of music or your favorite musician/group?
I was afraid of this question it changes a lot. I traditionally gravitate toward folky rock, enjoy throwback hip hop (shout out to 98.3), and lately have been getting more into both old and new R&B/soul (thanks Spotify for realizing I like that genre). Send me your music recs!
From thrill-seekers to people who are content just sipping a slushie, you can find all types at amusement parks. What are your favorite types of amusement park rides?
I’m a fan of roller-coasters! I’m pretty much down for any ride except the tea-cups. My favorite amusement park activity might be people watching though…
What is the most important life lesson you’ve learned so far?
That’s a difficult question, I’ve learned several important ones in the last few years. I think my most important lesson so far is accepting how things are at a given moment. I’ve learned not to suppress my emotional reaction to whatever is going on so I can allow the feeling to pass and move on with a clearer mind. It’s made me more confident, less phased by change, I take things less personally, and (since I’m not focusing as much on myself) I am able to see & hear other people. It’s made me a more empathetic person. Anyways, I could talk about this forever, but I’ll spare you.
Do you have any secret talents?
If I do they’re also hiding from me. Ha!
Lastly, what are you most looking forward to as you join the Webspec team?
I’m looking forward to working in a team environment as well as working with clients. So far so good!
