When we bring a new person into the Webspec crew, we make sure that they’re talented and passionate about what they do, of course. We also want to make sure they fit in well with the team and our new designer, Meanz Chan, passed the test. This month, we welcomed her with open arms and got to know her even better with another round of “Meet the Newbies.” Not only does she join the small group of cat lovers in the office (looking at her first picture, we think Stella knows), but she also has excellent taste in music. She’ll do just fine.
Where are you from and what’s your favorite thing about that place?
I’m from Des Moines and my favorite thing about it here is the inclusive art community.
Who inspires you the most? Why?
. His work as a designer and artist is incredible. When I’m looking for motivation, I look to his work.
This isn’t the most graceful office. Do you have any strange scars?
I have one that was accidental and one that was intentional. I sat on this circle stool when I was a kid and clipped the top of my foot because I spun around too much. The second one is on my cheek from a dermal piercing that rejected me.
What’s the last thing you binge watched?
“Black Mirror.” It’s like “The Twilight Zone” with a modern twist and full of paranoia about technology. Everyone here would probably love it.
Maybe we’ll have to have a Webspec Social binge watching night. Speaking of being scared – and we’re not saying the office is haunted – but do believe in ghosts?
Yes! Totally. But are you saying this place is haunted?
Hard to say. Moving on. Would you rather lose your keys or your cell phone and all contacts (there was a glitch in the cloud)?
I would rather lose my keys because I have duplicates ready just in case!
Iowa’s the best, but everybody needs a break now and then. What’s your favorite vacation spot? Any tips for someone who hasn’t been yet?
The Grand Canyon. Everyone needs to go there at least once. I would suggest seeing at least one sunrise and sunset over the canyon.
We’ve all started researching something and then gone down the Wikipedia rabbit hole. What’s one of the most interesting things you’ve learned accidentally?
Well, I can’t think of anything specifically, but it probably something that has to do with a criminal.
How did you and your bestie meet?
At the ARL on my 21st birthday. His name is Arnold and he’s a cat.
The office always has music playing, so we want to make sure you’ll be comfortable. What are your three all-time favorite albums?
I picked 5, because I have a hard time choosing favorites. These are just the first 5 that came to mind:
“Boys & Girls” by Alabama Shakes
“Deja Entendu” by Brand New
“Little Neon Limelight” by Houndmouth
“Shallow Grave” by The Tallest Man on Earth
“Self-Titled” by Nathaniel Rateliff and the Nightsweats
If you could live one day in your life over again, what would it be and why?
There are many days I would relive. The first one off the top of my head would be Hinterland 2015, day 1. It was the first time I got a photo pass to a concert, let alone a whole festival. It was a huge challenge and so exciting.
Stay tuned to learn more about what’s going on with the Webspec team!
