It was a month full of treats, costumes, and celebrations. Time flies by when you’re having fun—or in our case, eating—and October was no exception. It’s kind of hard to believe it’s already over, but before we head into November, let’s take a look back on what made this month so exciting, shall we? Turns out, a lot can happen between welcoming two new developers to the team, eating all the treats, and getting a new office cat (if only for a day).
The Newest of the Newbies
We were excited to welcome two developers to the Webspec Crew. To get to know them even better, we dove into a full-on “getting to know you” session that included discussing a failed fifth grade romance, a harrowing encounter with a flight of stairs, and weeping internally when someone chews with their mouth open. From the Land of Oz to the Land of Google Updates
What do you get when you cross an office full of creatives with a holiday that invites people to dress up? Obviously, you get the Webspec Halloween Team Costume Challenge. Our teams collaborated to put together costumes that ranged from themes only fellow tech nerds would understand to getups that any 5-year-old worth their weight in pop culture would know. There was even talk of including the new office cat (see “Slack Yack” below) to really add another layer of authenticity. We held a contest on Facebook where one “like” equaled one vote. In the end, took home the bragging rights, but you can relive the magic by flipping through the Facebook album.
This month, we celebrated a ridiculous number of birthdays. Seriously, 20% of the office had birthdays in October and we are not complaining. We can find a reason to celebrate something each day, but someone turning a year older comes with treats, so it may be our favorite thing. This month, the goodies ranged from cookies and cake to wings and apple slices (with caramel sauce, obviously) and we captured it all on our . As you can see, our holiday weight might be starting to come in a little early this year.
If you hadn’t heard (or celebrated), Monday October 17 was National Boss Day. We took the time to show our fearless leader, Jeremiah, how much we appreciate all he does. He works tirelessly to ensure our clients are happy and our team is successful, so it was a nice change of pace to be able to give back to him. The man already has a year supply of cheese and a whole taxidermy zoo in his office, so this year it was in the form of a virtual reality headset. With the stairs in our office, this gift also came with our promise of not letting him take a tumble.
Administrative assistant/happiness coordinator, Bree definitely coordinated some happiness this month when she brought her kitten, Loki, to the office after he was neutered to keep an eye on him. We’re used to having dogs in the office, so to welcome a kitty for a day was a fun change of pace—even for a self-described dog person like Danielle.
bree:
danielle: Ok, so he’s actually kinda cute…
erin: He’s SO cute…and destructive.
bree: He’s way better to be around when he’s tired. Haha!
michael: The ONE day I’m sick and we have a cat in the office. 🙁
danielle: LOL @michael his name is Loki. We need him for our team picture.
erin: You really do, @danielle. Maybe @bree can bring him tomorrow. Ahem…
danielle: But actually this needs to be a real thing.
erin: Totally serious.
danielle OH MY GAWD!!! I even have something that will work for a green cape!!!
Erin:
So that pretty much sums up our October. You’ve heard from us now we want to hear from you! How is your office celebrating Halloween? Share your traditions in the comments.
